The Taste of Bath Guide to Cosy Comfort Food

Summer may be well and truly over now, but here’s a secret – here at Taste of Bath HQ, we don’t really mind, because autumn is definitely the best season for foodies. As the weather gets chillier and the nights draw in, it’s the perfect excuse to cosy up by the fire and tuck into some seriously good food and drink. And as your local experts in indulgence, we’re bringing you the Taste of Bath guide to autumn comfort food…

Muffins & tea 2

Tea & Cake

After a proper autumnal country walk, when you come back inside with rosy cheeks and frozen fingers, a good cuppa and a slice of cake is exactly what you need. Keen bakers and chocoholics, check out our gorgeous recipe for Chocolate Stout Cake, made with Electric Bear’s Mocha Mochachocolata Ya Ya, or perhaps our Elderberry & White Chocolate Muffins with Heavenly Hedgerows’ Elderberry & Bramble Jam – both perfect to wash down with a mug of Teahuggers’ Earl of Bath. If you don’t fancy baking your own, don’t worry, we have the solution – our selection of scrumptious Wild Flour Cake Company cakes, including their bestselling Sticky Toffee Cake. We also love their Chocolate Chip Spelt Cookies, which go beautifully with a cup of Colonna Coffee – check out their marvellous coffee pods.

Hot Toddies

Whether you’ve got a bit of a sniffle that needs chasing away, or you just need something to perk you up on a cold dark evening, a hot toddy is a classic autumn treat. We’ve added Heavenly Hedgerows’ Foraged Sloe Gin to our range just in time for autumn (check out this blog post to discover all the other lovely new things we’ve added to our shop recently) and it’s perfect for warming the cockles – sip it just as it is, or use a splash to seriously upgrade your mulled wine. Meanwhile, if you fancy a pick-me-up without the booze, try our recipe for a fabulous Dirty Chai Latte, starring Henny & Joe’s Chai Syrup (an autumnal essential) and Roundhill Roastery Coffee.

Big Breakfasts

When the mornings are dark and cold, you really don’t fancy getting out of bed, so a really good breakfast is crucial. For something quick & delicious, start your day with Seven Hills’ scrumptious Roasted Peanut Butter, generously spread on a thick slice of toast, and a big mug of Teahuggers Breakfast Tea. When you’ve got a little more time – perhaps for a lazy weekend breakfast, when it’s raining outside and you don’t want to go anywhere – check out a few of our favourite recipes. Most recently we’ve posted this Chorizo Hash, featuring Somerset Charcuterie’s Cider Chorizo, which is packed with flavour and the perfect indulgent brunch dish to set you up for the day, or try our twist on the classic Avocado Toast with crispy bacon and Bath Blue Cheese.

Whether you’re looking forward to luxuriating in the cosy comforts of autumn, or you need a few treats to cheer you up now the summer is over, Taste of Bath is your go-to for fabulous food and drink. Remember that you can buy all of our products individually from our online shop, and don’t forget that our gorgeous hampers make the perfect gift for (dare we mention it) Christmas – we know it’s a little way away yet, but we’re just letting you know…
