Are you planning a staycation this summer? Bath is such a gorgeous place in the sunshine, with all sorts of fabulous fun going on, that locals just don’t need to go through all the hassle of a holiday away. And although as champions of all things Bath, we might be just a little bit biased, personally we reckon that you can keep the Seychelles – Somerset is the place to be. Here are our top picks for the perfect staycation in Bath…
Eat Al Fresco
Bath has some stunning al fresco spots for dining and drinking. We particularly love the Bath Brew House, for properly good pub food that’s perfect for summer – check out Helen’s review here. Their sunny beer garden, right in the middle of the city, is overflowing with flowers and quite simply a lovely spot for a few cold pints. A few more of our al fresco favourites include Pintxos de Bath (order a jug of sangria in their gorgeous courtyard for serious holiday vibes), Corkage Chapel Row (great seasonal grub and a fantastic wine list) and the Marlborough Tavern (which boasts another lovely central-Bath beer garden).
Escape the City
Fancy escaping the hustle and bustle of the city for a little country air? Visit The Inn at Freshford, a serious favourite of Taste of Bath founder Helen – read her blog post all about it here. It’s only a ten minute train-ride away, so you can leave the car at home, and the surrounding countryside is the perfect place for a walk to work up your appetite.
Hit the Beach
Longing for the feeling of sand between your toes? This year, you don’t even have to leave the city – the beach has come to us! Visit Bath on the Beach, a little slice of the Caribbean in Victoria Park, buzzing with beach games, sunshine food, ice creams and more. Looking for a slightly more chilled out atmosphere? Check out the gorgeous beach bar at the County Hotel, also featuring white sands, deck chairs and sun shades, where the cocktails are particularly good.
Keep it Chilled
In need of some relaxation? To make sure you come back from your staycation just as relaxed as if you’d gone away, discover one of Bath’s loveliest independent day spas, Radiance Wellbeing. They’ve got all sorts of indulgent treatments on offer, including some that are perfect for the hot weather, as well as a little old-fashioned pampering in the form of pedicures, manicures and the like.
And of course, if you’re going for a little indulgence, don’t forget to fill the cupboards with treats from our Taste of Bath online shop – we’ve got gorgeous cocktails, summer snacks, sweet treats and more!
