Keen blog readers will know that a few weeks ago, we ran a fabulous Taste of Bath competition for Father’s Day, to celebrate all the brilliant dads out there. We were overwhelmed with some really beautiful responses, and in the end, decided to send our delicious Boutique Gents’ Collection gift box out to Claire and her lovely dad. The way that Claire wrote about her dad, Alan, and everything he’s done for her was incredibly heartfelt, and we were touched to read how he’s supported her through some of life’s toughest challenges. Not to mention, of course, his excellent cooking and what sound like serious G&T mixing skills – what more could you ask from your dad?
When we told her the good news, Claire wrote to us, ” That made me cry – he really is the best dad! Thank you Helen, he loved it and was chuffed to bits.” The family tucked into some Bath Blue Cheese and Bath Oliver Biscuits that very evening, and we don’t blame them, it’s pretty impossible to resist when the produce is this scrumptious!
We had so many great entries, though, that it was too hard to pick out just one dad to treat – so we decided to send a little gift along to all the other dads who’d been nominated, too. Each one received a bag of Meg’s Cottage Fudge, one of our bestselling sweet treats here at Taste of Bath (if you’ve never tried it, you’re missing out – order yourself some here).
We heard some wonderful stories from each of our entrants. Mia told us how her dad has had to take on the role of both parents, something that’s tough for any dad, but he does it with patience, kindness and a smile – even when she and her sister can’t stop bickering. Jasmine made us well up with her description of how her dad has helped make her the person she is, and forgiven her for all those difficult teenage years – something lots of dads will identify with! Ellen told us how she’s been inspired by her hardworking dad, who’s been a postman in Bath for 45 years and is hoping to make it to a round half century. And Deb got us all feeling warm & fuzzy with her description of her dad’s unconditional love for all of his precious family, from wife to kids to grandkids.
Frankly, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house at Taste of Bath HQ as we read all the entries, so you can hardly blame us for struggling to pick a favourite – although everyone’s reasons were different, each dad nominated deserved a treat to say thank you. At Taste of Bath, one of our very favourite things is to hear the stories behind the hampers we’re sending, whether it’s a gift to celebrate an old friend’s birthday, a wedding present for two people starting a life together, a big thank you to mums or dads, or simply a ‘just because’ present to let someone know you’re thinking of them. Knowing that we’re helping you share the love is what makes it all worthwhile!
