Autumn Comfort Food Favourites

A few weeks ago, we shared a lovely winter warmer recipe for the perfect Dirty Chai Latte, by our resident blogger Sal Godfrey, featuring Henny & Joe’s chai and Roundhill Roastery coffee. Now that the clocks have gone back and the nights are drawing in, it got us thinking about a few of our other favourite treats – so read on for some serious autumnal comfort food…

First up is In A Pickle’s Christmas Morning Marmalade, just the thing to get you going on a cold morning. It’s made with Seville oranges, for a burst of Spanish sunshine on even the gloomiest of days, and a pinch of ginger to warm and wake you up. Spread it thickly on hot, buttered toast and wash down with a strong coffee – try our Colonna pods for the perfect coffee in the comfort of your own home.

Sticky Toffee Cake

For a little later on in the day, another of our favourites is the Organic Cake Company’s Sticky Toffee Cake – if you can stop at one slice then you’ve got more willpower than us. This rich, luxurious cake is made with fudgy dates and wintry spices, and topped with a gorgeously gooey toffee sauce. It makes the perfect partner to a big mug of tea – try Teahuggers Earl of Bath, a delicious twist on Earl Grey – on rainy afternoons where you’ve got nothing to do but sit by a roaring fire and get stuck into a good book.

At dinner time, to accompany a proper roast with all the trimmings, we love Iford cider’s cloudy medium dry. We’ve got several of Iford’s ciders on offer, and although there’s nothing better than a cold sparkling cider on a summer’s day, when the autumn comes in, we start craving Iford’s cloudy still cider, mellow and bittersweet. Served just below room temperature, it’s full of the flavours of the harvest.

Friary-Liqueurs-Ginger

Finally, after dinner on those dark evenings, we reckon it’s hard to beat Friary Liqueur’s sweet and spicy Ginger Liqueur. It’s Christmas in a bottle, combining fiery ginger with a three year old blended Scotch Whisky, and as well as being delicious served straight over ice, it makes a fabulous addition to festive cocktails too. Mix with chilled champagne, or add it to a mulled apple juice or cider for a bit of a kick – this is guaranteed to chase the winter blues away.

You can buy all of these products individually from our online store, and have them delivered to you anywhere in the UK – or why not create your own little hamper full of comfort food treats? We’ve got far too many goodies to mention them all, so click here to view our fabulous full selection…
