We’re always being asked what our favourite products are from the Taste of Bath range – which is a really, really difficult question, considering that we handpick every single product purely because of how much we love it. But since you ask, we present our top five bestsellers – if you’re going to try anything from our range, you absolutely have to try these goodies…
In no particular order…
First up is Tea Huggers’ Magic Breakfast Tea, the perfect choice to help you start the day right. A careful blend of Indian Assam and Sri Lankan black whole-leaf tea makes for a cuppa that’s packed with flavour. Not only does it taste good, it does good too – for every box sold, Tea Huggers donate a breakfast to a UK child who would otherwise have gone hungry, through the charity Magic Breakfast. What better way could there be to start your day?
To go with your mug of tea, we’d highly recommend a hot buttered crumpet topped with Heavenly Hedgerows’ Elderberry and Bramble Jam, our second brilliant bestseller. Every single jar is stuffed full of fresh elderberries, foraged from the hedgerows around Keynsham, just outside Bath. Instead of adding a whole heap of sugar like commercial jam-makers, Chris at Heavenly Hedgerows lets the flavours of the berries shine through, for a rich, dark jam with a fruity tang.
For something a little more savoury, try Bath Soft Cheese, another of our bestselling favourites. With a soft white rind and a creamy, gooey centre, it’s perfect for spreading thickly on crackers or fresh, crusty bread. This cheese is so good that the Bath Soft Cheese Company, based at Bath’s organic Park Farm, take their name from it, and its heritage goes all the way back to the eighteenth century, when it was one of Admiral Lord Nelson’s favourites. It’s still made the old-fashioned way, according to the original recipe found in an old grocer’s recipe book, with whole milk from Park Farm’s herd of Holstein Friesian cows.
Fittingly, another of our top bestsellers is Hot Date, a fabulous chutney that makes the perfect double act with Bath Soft Cheese. Made by Bath’s resident pickle pioneers, In A Pickle, Hot Date combines apples and dates with a pinch of curry spice to make a smooth chutney packed with flavour. Not only is it delicious with cheese, but it also makes an excellent accompaniment to a proper old-school pork pie.
And what could be better to wash down your cheeseboard than a frosty bottle of cider? Honey’s Midford Cider is our final brilliant bestseller – made with traditional West-Country cider apple varieties like Slack M’Girdle, Ten Commandments and Crimson King, it has a clean, fresh, medium-dry flavour that combines with a slight fizz to make it wonderfully refreshing.
