At Taste of Bath, every single item that we choose for our hampers is something that we love, something about which we’d say to friends and family: “You’ve just got to try this.” That’s what makes our hampers stand out from the crowd – and for our Foodies Ultimate Collection, we’ve picked the very best of the best, products with serious foodie credentials and a little something special in their back story.
First up, and knocking Nespresso into a cocked hat, are the incredible Colonna Discovery Coffee Pods. Colonna & Small’s is legendary amongst Bath’s caffeine fiends as a fabulous, funky little café staffed by the crème de la crème of UK baristas – Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, the genius behind this place, has been UK Barista Champion and a finalist in the World Barista Championships three times. Quite simply, they make the best coffee in Bath, so we were delighted when they announced their own range of coffee pods to recreate that magic in your own home.
Next is one of our runaway bestsellers, Stoney Bonk from Honeys Midford Cider.
Based on a traditional Somerset thirst-quencher, Stoney Bonk is a careful blend of light, sparkling cider and fiery ginger beer, and when it’s served icy cold on a hot summer’s day, there’s simply nothing more refreshing.
Honeys Midford have spent more than 40 years restoring the ancient grazed Somerset orchards on their land, and planting them with traditional West-Country cider apple varieties. All we can say is, it’s been worth the wait.
Our third star of the Foodies Ultimate Collection is Heavenly Hedgerows’ gorgeous Elderberry and Bramble Jam, made with 100% fresh foraged berries, picked by hand in the beautiful countryside surrounding Keynsham just outside Bath. Rich, fruity and full-bodied, you can almost taste the late sunshine that ripens the berries in the autumn months. It’s a little less sweet than commercial varieties, which often bulk out with sugar – instead, the high fruit content in this jam makes it gloriously thick, perfect for slathering generously on hot buttered toast.
We love working with small producers, and they don’t come much smaller than our fourth choice, Albion Brewing Co.
They’re not a microbrewery or even a Nano brewery – in fact, they’re a Pico brewery, producing just 65L of beer in a batch, which means their bottles are seriously in demand.
Each of their beers has a literary name, to reflect the Poets’ Corner area of Bath where they are brewed, and The Tempest (a rye ale with a touch of juniper) is our very favourite.
Last but by no means least is Somerset Hotsauce, a fiery chilli sauce with a fruity tang. It’s made right in the centre of Bath by two mates who still have their day jobs – they just happen to love getting in the kitchen in their spare time. The carefully balanced blend of crushed herbs and spices that makes Somerset Hotsauce so delicious is a secret known only to Doug, who spent two years developing it. We can vouch for the fact that the end result is utterly perfect, as we slosh it on absolutely everything from avo toast to grilled meats.
And that’s not all, of course – we haven’t got space here to describe every single product in loving detail, but our Foodies Ultimate Collection also features Bath Blue Cheese, Bath Oliver Biscuits, Henny & Joe’s Chai Syrup and Seven Hills Dark Chocolate with Salted Toasted Almonds, all of which are exquisite and unmissable in their own right.
Let’s be honest – what you really need to do is just order the box and try it all for yourself. Click here to do just that.
